The Opportunity:
- The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for Assistant Director Manager of the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Support section within the Digital Recording Services Branch.
The Digital Recording Services Branch is responsible for broadcasting and archiving the audio visual record of chamber and committee proceedings and for producing the official written record of parliamentary debates and committee hearings, known as the Hansard.
- As a Broadcasting Infrastructure and Support Assistant Director, you will manage the daytoday operations of a technical support team. You will work closely with our stakeholders to ensure the reliable delivery of broadcast services across the Parliament and more broadly the Australian community.
They range from broadcast centric platforms that produce, distribute, and record audio visual content to bespoke infrastructure integral for the federal Parliament to function.
The role is pivotal to providing technical input to current and upcoming project initiatives toreplace and upgrade critical systems based on legacy technology to the latest currently available.
You will be responsible for steering the team who will be involved at every phase from design, install, implementation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the newer or upgraded platforms.
Your role as a leader of the section will be to guide and mentor junior staff as well as manage and influence staff performance according to departmental processes and feedback cycles.
Who we are looking for:
- We are interested in hearing from you if you can demonstrate team management skills in a technical support area with experience in at least one of the following disciplines:
- Broadcast Engineering
- Audio Engineering
- RF Engineering
- Electronics/Electrical Engineering including board and component level troubleshooting and repair
- Systems Engineering
- IT Networking or Video Conferencing
- The key skills, traits and experience include:
- Extensive experience working and or leading a team supporting Broadcast and Production systems
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in broadcasting or related industries
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of Broadcasting technical support staff
- Clientfocused who can engage and effectively communicate with stakeholders across all levels.
- A selfstarter who is passionate and enthusiastic about their work and can motivate a team
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritise work, delegate tasks and coordinate incident response and annual maintenance activities.
- High analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to learn quickly and adapt around competing priorities.
- Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation
- Drawings, SOPS, and manuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and can negotiate with influence.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and performance management of staff.
- Ability to establish and improve work practices and processes that enables the team to deliver reliably, quickly, and efficiently.

- Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PEL 1 classification.
- 1. As a team leader, and in accordance with the stated directions of DPS, manage the daytoday operations of a group of technical officers within the Broadcasting Infrastructure Support section, and assume responsibility for problem resolution within systems and equipment.
- 2. Supervise the repair and maintenance of more complex broadcasting and communications equipment located in Parliament House. Actively participate in the evaluation, planning and commissioning of asset replacement projects.
- Liaise with and provide high-level advice and reporting to clients/users and senior management on broadcasting and communications technical matters.
- Identify the development and training needs of subordinate staff of the work area and facilitate appropriate training and/or staff development programs.
