We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Policy and Industry Affairs professional to join our Public Affairs team.

With the aviation and travel sector booming in 2023, on top of major projects that will underpin the future growth and development of Melbourne Airport and Victoria as a whole, now is a very exciting time to join


Reporting to the Head of Government & Policy, this role will support the business in the delivery of APAC's government, industry and public policy agenda through providing high-quality research, policy development, writing and advocacy skills.


Using a strong policy background and understanding of the workings of government, the role will focus on supporting the organisation to deliver on major projects and shape industry and regulatory issues both nationally and in Victoria.


This role plays a key role in the Public Affairs team, and will work across the organisation to support advocacy outcomes including with major project teams and APAC Executives.


Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring the regulatory, political and commercial environments in which APAC operates to identify emerging policy issues and areas of risk and opportunity
  • Supporting APAC's strategic positioning to protect and promote APAC's reputation through timely analysis of public policy issues
  • Developing content to support APAC's advocacy on public policy issues, manage reputation risk and delivering on stakeholder engagement objectives
  • Supporting the development of policymaking and the drafting of submissions on all relevant government inquiries, proposals and reforms impacting APAC's operations and strategic direction, including but not limited to the Aviation White Paper, Productivity Commission reviews and ACCC reporting
  • Supporting APAC's stakeholder research program and use findings to identify emerging risks and refine content for public policy and communications activities
  • Working with business units to develop stakeholder responses and strategies on issues / projects
  • Providing strategic policy advice and support to aviation, property, retail, and ground transport business units as required
  • You will possess significant experience (anticipated 5 years or more) within public policy, economics, advocacy or research.
  • Be experienced in writing and reviewing policies and hold strong economic and policy knowledge.
  • You will hold a tertiary qualification in Economics or Law or another associated discipline and have gained a strong ability to identify key priorities and manage multiple tasks while working to tight deadlines and under pressure
  • As the role will interact with a variety of stakeholders and diverse audiences, you will possess welldeveloped written and verbal communication skills.
