Welcome to the community of Abbotsleigh. Abbotsleigh is a pre-kindergarten to Year 12 Anglican day and Boarding school for girls located on the upper north shore in Wahroonga. Since 1885, Abbotsleigh has been inspiring girls to lead a purposeful life, to thrive, and to make a positive impact on the world of today and tomorrow. We champion equality for women and girls.

We operate 4 separate boarding houses, for girls Years 7 – 12 from metropolitan Sydney, regional NSW, interstate, and international locations. We offer full and weekly boarding options to our families. Boarding at Abbotsleigh is a place where our girls develop independence, leadership, collaboration and communication skills that prepare them for life beyond school.

Role:

The Head of Boarding plays a central role in creating a supportive and enriching environment for boarders, fostering their personal growth and academic success, while ensuring their safety and wellbeing. The Head of Boarding will be an enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified leader of our vibrant and caring boarding community.

Support for the Christian faith of the School, the ability to think strategically, proven success in leading a team, a superb pastoral care record, a fine understanding of learning and schools, excellent collegial and communication skills and a commitment to maintaining Abbotsleigh's position as a boarding school of choice, are essential for this position.

Knowledge and experience

  • Leading a dynamic and effective team within an education setting.
  • Residential care that demonstrates a strong understanding of adolescent child development.
  • Upholding behavioural and learning expectations for students.
  • Passionate about and dedicated to the boarding community.
  • Possesses a friendly, professional approach capable of inspiring confidence in students, existing parents, and future prospective parents.
  • Is capable of formulating and expressing an independent view and of working loyally as part of a team.
  • Is aware of the ethos and nature of the School and is prepared to commit to the development of the 'whole girl'.
  • Is willing to work hard with energy and enthusiasm, realising that the position can involve commitment seven days a week during term time.
  • Experience in a boarding position with significant leadership and management responsibility – preferable
