The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is Australia's national criminal intelligence agency. We advise senior decision makers on serious and organised crime impacting Australia.

About the branch

NPCS Branch administers the National Police Checking Service delivering access to nationally coordinated criminal history checks while the Portfolio Management Office enables the agency to successfully plan, assure and deliver, new and enhanced capabilities for its stakeholders.


Key services provided by the branch include:

  • Providing timely NPCS checks and an accurate and reliable service.
  • Engagement with partners and stakeholders to document their requirements for new or enhanced national capabilities, determine process improvements to achieve consistency, and develop business cases for investment.
  • Improving operation of the NPCS to ensure it remains fit for purpose into the future.

About the role
We are seeking an exceptional commercial officer who is adaptable and ready to take on diverse challenges.

Commercial officers are responsible for supporting the Senior Commercial Advisor in the analysis, review and negotiation of contracts, ensuring their compliance with applicable regulations and identifying any contractual risks involved.

This is a dynamic and varied role where you will also have the opportunity to engage in some form of commercial drafting (under supervision) and may be called upon to provide support in the event of litigation and perform additional assignments that contribute to strategic outcomes of the NPCS branch.


  • You will be proactive with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Has the ability to understand and analyse commercial documents or be willing to learn.
  • Possesses an understanding of Commonwealth government policy in relation to procurement and/or contract management.
  • Has experience in and knowledge of techniques for preparing contractual documentation highly desirable.
  • Works effectively under direction and exercise a degree of judgement in the analysis of contractual documents.
  • Contributes to strategic organisational outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of a team to establish, implement, monitor and review contract performance and supply risk management strategies.
  • Assists with the preparation of briefing papers, reports, minutes, presentations and correspondence.
  • Undertakes detailed analysis of contractual documents, commercial proposals, reports and data and formulate recommendations.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributes to the organisational strategy and promote a collaborative workplace culture.
