Position Information:

Wallsend South Public School is a large metropolitan school in Newcastle situated on Awabakal Country.

There is a positive culture with high expectations for every person to uphold our values of kindness, respect, responsibility, resilience, acceptance, fairness, care and integrity.

Our community work together to support student engagement, improvement in learning and wellbeing.

In 2023, enrolment is 559.

Our school has an increasing EAL/D student enrolment which is currently 9% (52 students) and a total of 107 LBOTE students.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student enrolment is 8% (44 students). We seek to provide a culturally safe space for children to learn. The Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) of socio-economic status is 43.


The Deputy Principal position is key in upholding and strengthening our quality systems and processes so that positive learning and wellbeing conditions for students, staff and community are valued and maintained.

This position requires a leader who is collaborative, consistently seeks to improve themselves and others, and has established relational trust with staff and community members.

Key accountabilities include; leading teaching and learning focused on continuous improvement for every student, engaging and working with colleagues and the community to best support students, and working collaboratively with the principal and the executive team to lead the effective management of the school.

  • Evidenced excellent educational leadership resulting in continuous improvement and embedded practice.
  • Proven success in developing and leading systems and processes that enhance a positive school culture and workplace environment.
  • Ability to lead a culture of inclusion and high expectation that recognises the richness and diversity of the school community.

General Selection Criteria:

  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
