About the opportunity
The Menzies Institute for Medical Research is looking for a Research Assistant to join their team.

Menzies is one of Australia's leading health and medical research institutes and is recognised worldwide for its research excellence. Menzies' mission is to perform internationally significant medical research leading to healthier, longer, and better lives for all Tasmanians.


As our new Research Assistant, you will provide research support to the Tasmanian Study of Echocardiographic detection of Left ventricular dysfunction (TAS-ELF) Study.

This participant-based study is a randomised trial to explore the benefits of screening selected patients at risk of developing heart failure.


You will be tasked with providing day to day operational support for the study with a focus on participant recruitment, obtaining consent and participant follow ups.


What you'll do:

  • Support the daytoday operations of the TAS-ELF study, including contacting study participants and inviting them in for 8year review.
  • Undertake physical assessments such as an ECG, 6minute walk, blood pressure, height/weight/waist, and mini cognitive assessment.
  • Facilitate 8year participant reviews by collecting data in a professional and confident manner.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry and maintenance of the Study's Redcap Database.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree level qualification in Nursing or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a range of people and organisations.
  • Experience in working in participantbased research studies, with knowledge of patient confidentiality and research ethics issues.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, initiative, and judgment, particularly when dealing with matters of a confidential nature.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with a high degree of attention to detail.

Salary details

  • Appointment to this role will be at Research Assistant Level 1 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $91,844 comprising base salary of $78,499 plus 17% superannuation.
