  • Work alongside a team of specialised cardiovascular researchers.
  • Conduct high-quality research to improve cardiovascular health outcomes.
  • Fulltime, Fixed Term (4 years), Based in Hobart.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow (Academic level C,D or E) at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies), as part of the College of Health and Medicine at The University of Tasmania.

This role will see you join our newly established Cardiovascular Research Flagship, working with a team of 25 leading cardiovascular researchers. Your role will involve leading collaborations and activities to advance the Flagship’s work, conducting high-quality research, securing funding, publishing findings, and supervising students. Depending on your experience, you’ll also contribute to academic leadership, team building, fostering research, and supporting junior staff development. We’re looking for an exceptional researcher who is passionate about making a significant impact in reducing cardiovascular risk and improving clinical outcomes in Tasmania and beyond.

    About Menzies

Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes and is recognised worldwide for its research excellence. Our mission is to perform internationally significant medical research leading to healthier, longer and better lives for all Tasmanians. Our research adopts a ‘bench-to-bedside’ and disease prevention approach. This approach is aimed at enhancing patient care and improving clinical outcomes for the community. We achieve this by translating knowledge into clinical and policy actions, and through the commercial application of our discoveries. Tasmania, an island state with a population of over 500,000 people, possesses a distinct health system. This system facilitates close engagement with the University, government agencies, and health providers. It offers a unique framework for translational health research.

We strive to stimulate economic growth, lift literacy, improve health outcomes for Tasmania and nurture our environment as it nurtures us. We welcome enquiring minds, from near and far, to join us in our pursuit of the extraordinary.

    What’s Required

The role requires a significant research record in cardiovascular disease, demonstrated by high-quality publications, presentations, and funding success. Proficiency in successful research student supervision will see you succeed in this role. You’ve proven experience as an effective academic leader with team-building skills and the ability to foster excellence in research and teaching, relative to career stage and opportunity. Relationship building comes easily to you and you’ve an established local, national, and international network of relevant disciplines and communities.

A PhD in a relevant field is required.

    What’s on Offer?

You’ll have access to staff benefits and discounts for health, fitness, accommodation, and banking to name a few. Based in Hobart city at the Menzies Institute, we offer the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of medical research and contribute to improving health outcomes in a unique and beautiful island setting. On offer are salary packaging options and 17% superannuation.
