Appointment Pool
Standards and Integrity is seeking to establish a pool of Assessment Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise from July 1 2024 and up to the end of June 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2024, up to the end of June 2025.

The position of Assessment Officer independently assesses complaints and notifications made to the Standards and Integrity Directorate, including sensitive and complex matters, making considered recommendations for resolution with respect to Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Suitable applicants will assist in managing the complaints, allegations and investigations database, ensuring that all complaints are recorded, classified, allocated, monitored and resolved in accordance with established timeframes and in compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements, departmental policies and the Australian Standards for Complaints Handling.
Assessment Officers are responsible for undertaking projects that support continuous improvement in complaints management, investigations, child protection, conduct and integrity policies and strategies within the department. Within this role they provide support to senior officers in the directorate in managing particularly sensitive or urgent matters, using the complaints case management database.
The Reportable Conduct Scheme commenced on 1 January 2023. The Scheme is designed to enhance the safety of children in Western Australia. It requires heads of organisations that exercise care, supervision, or authority over children to notify the Ombudsman of any allegations or convictions of child abuse by their employees, and subsequently investigate these allegations.
Along with the above responsibilities, Assessment Officers are required to notify the Ombudsman Western Australia if they become aware of a reportable allegation or conviction made against a current employee along with other external reporting requirement.

Demonstrated skills and experience in undertaking a complaints management function within a large environment. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of complaints and investigation policy, procedures and regulatory frameworks within a public sector environment. Demonstrated well developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with individuals at all levels and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Demonstrated well developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to use initiative to identify priorities and meet conflicting timelines.
