Sydney, Australia Transurban Full time

Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.

About the role

We're seeking a Senior Manager, Government and Industry Relations, to enhance and manage relationships with senior government and industry stakeholders in NSW.

This dynamic role involves developing and implementing a strategic NSW government relations strategy, driving engagement to protect and enhance Transurban’s reputation. You'll be the main contact for government relations and policy programs, providing strategic advice, liaising with political and industry leaders, and supporting stakeholder engagement. Additionally, you'll advise on growth opportunities, risk mitigation, and contribute to Transurban’s corporate objectives.

As our Senior Manager, Government and Industry Relations, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Drive NSW Government Relations and Industry strategy to shape and enhance local engagement
  • Manage engagement between Transurban senior management, NSW Government, local councils, and industry
  • Broaden relationships with NSW Government, positioning Transurban as a trusted partner on transport and mobility solutions
  • Develop and maintain robust stakeholder relationships
  • Monitor NSW politics and stakeholder matters, advising on government relations and community management issues
  • Support growth and social licence objectives by strengthening relationships with third-party advocates and membership organisations
  • Lead engagement with key peak bodies, including briefings, research, and report writing
  • Advise and support the NSW Operations Team on strategic stakeholder and community issues
  • Provide strategic advice on potential issues or risks impacting business goals or development opportunities
  • Be the key contact for government stakeholders, essential to achieving Transurban’s business objectives

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • A vast amount of senior experience in corporate communications, government relations, or public affairs
  • Proven experience with senior government and industry stakeholders
  • Established networks within government and deep understanding of public policy in transport and infrastructure
  • Expertise in corporate reputation management, strategic shareholder engagement, and issues management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to manage risk in complex environments
  • Strategic thinking and pragmatic action with strong planning and organisational abilities
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills
  • Ability to translate complex information for a community audience
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • High-level computer skills and understanding of digital communications
  • Initiative and ability to work autonomously
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Share offers and insurance benefits
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability.

If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us on careers@transurban.com.
