Newcastle, Australia Flexhive Full time

About Us:

High speed rail will connect Australian regions, cities and communities - delivering more job and lifestyle choices, greater housing options and new economic opportunities.

With a new world-class railway system at its core, the Australian Government's High Speed Rail Authority is planning for a future high speed rail network to connect Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and regional communities across the east coast of Australia.

The first stage connects Newcastle to Sydney - a nationally significant corridor - with a fast, reliable and regular link between the two largest cities in NSW.

Journey times from Newcastle to Sydney will be about an hour, and about 30 minutes from the Central Coast to Sydney or Newcastle - more than twice as fast as current travel.

The Australian Government has allocated $78.8 million to the High Speed Rail Authority to deliver the initial Newcastle to Sydney high speed rail business case before the end of 2024. This includes determining important aspects of the new rail network including the proposed alignment, station locations, the type of train to be used and the estimated cost and timeframe for construction.

The Role:

As an EL1 Stakeholder Engagement Manager within our newly formed Stakeholder and Communications team, you will support stakeholder engagement activities and provide strategic communications and issues management advice to the Authority.

You will be responsible for implementing effective stakeholder engagement to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach, supporting Senior Stakeholder Engagement activities across the program, and implementing elements of the overarching engagement plan. This role will provide communications support to the HSRA Executive Team and its Business Partners and positively contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the Authority's reputation.

This permanent role can be based in Sydney or Newcastle. Flexible working arrangements are on offer, but please note that this is a full-time role and some domestic travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a program of activities to build the Authority's reputation among senior and industry stakeholders.
  • Foster collaborative and consultative relationships with key stakeholders to promote open communication and best practice engagement initiatives.
  • Address engagement issues, risks, and opportunities, providing appropriate management strategies to achieve business objectives and enhance reputation.
  • Provide strategic communications support and issues management advice.
  • Chair stakeholder engagement forums or reference groups as needed.
  • Prepare materials for briefing senior stakeholders, including presentations, speaking notes, and other communications.
  • Develop and manage tracking and reporting systems, operating protocols, and stakeholder engagement practices to ensure high-level service delivery.
  • Attend stakeholder and other engagement events as required.
  • Live the HSRA values and model good leadership behaviours and qualities

About You:

We are looking for a candidate who will excel in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment where no day is the same. You are a people leader who could bring their proven track record to this new and exciting high-profile project.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of training and experience in communications, stakeholder and community engagement, and government relations.
  • Minimum seven years of experience, with work on major infrastructure projects being desirable.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with staff and stakeholders at all levels and across multiple institutions.
  • Experience and knowledge of government or political context.
  • Strong project management skills to achieve work goals and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with proven problem-solving abilities requiring critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • You will be required to travel for stakeholder engagement meetings, workshops and community events.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to participate in establishing one of Australia's highest profile infrastructure projects.
  • Capability development opportunities tailored to your career goals.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Support for First Nations people and women's progression into senior leadership roles.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Candidates must have lived in Australia or have a verifiable background for at least the preceding five years.

How to Apply:

Applications close at 5pm AEST, Wednesday 21st August.

You should submit a current CV (no more than 3 pages) and brief expression of interest (no more than 1 page) outlining how your skills and experience align with the vacancy.
