About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Nuclear Capability Development, this position will support the AUKUS Build and will provide pivotal leadership to our new Nuclear department. The role involves overseeing engineering projects, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate nuclear technology and mechanical systems. This role will also be responsible for troubleshooting complex issues, optimising system performance, and contributing to strategic planning and innovation to enhance submarine capabilities and efficiency.

This role is a Permanent Full time position, based from Osborne, SA.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison with build organisation and provision of engineering support to ensure the as built product reflects design intent
  • Understand the key requirements and critical dimensions for major structural components
  • Take the lead on design changes that affect major structural components, whether they originate from emergent issues, process improvement
  • Support or act as the engineering member of the test and authorisation groups
  • Develop knowledge of the unique build sequence of submarines and provide engineering support
  • Provide technical leadership to a team of up to fifteen personnel, with a focus on team development, achieving objectives and training
  • Execute technical authority in accordance with approved technical, project and design plans

About you 

  • Degree Qualified Engineering/Physical Science discipline; Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Materials, Chemistry, Physics
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Experience in an Engineering or Technical position for 10+ years
  • Previous experience in both a Nuclear and a Mechanical disciple is required
  • Knowledge of the nuclear industry and Nuclear Regulations
  • Previous exposure to Engineering Lifecycle
  • Previous Nuclear plant experience
  • Experience with submarine operations or systems

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
