The Salvation Army (Salvos) provides a wide range of services that support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer accommodation, counselling, support, behavioural programs, and advice to women and children at risk of, experiencing or escaping family violence. Our services focus on prevention, restoration and healing to provide specialised support to address immediate safety issues and provide advice, referrals, and connection to assist the recovery journey.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Specialist Family Violence Practitioner to provide a specialist response to high risk cases of family violence identified through Victoria Police, by providing intensive and holistic short-term interventions to men who have perpetrated family violence.
The Specialist Family Violence Practitioner (Alexis) is embedded within Victoria Police's Family Violence Investigation Unit located at Sandringham Police station in the Bayside Peninsula Area.
Reporting to the Program Manager, this is a fixed-term full-time position, contracted until July 2025, based in Windsor, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 6.
You will successfully
- Ensure clients who access the service are provided with non-judgemental, holistic support that demonstrates the values of The Salvation Army
- Demonstrate a commitment to justice within the workplace and community
- Build effective working relationships with Victoria Police members and embed specialist family violence and perpetrator interventions across a multidisciplinary team
- Co-review and co-triage family violence incidences in Division 1,2 or 5 alongside Victoria Police Family Violence Investigation Unit
- Conduct intake and assessment, on-going risk assessments to inform and develop comprehensive support and safety plans in coordination with the Alexis Family Violence Response Model Specialist (A-FVRM Women and Children's) and Victoria Police members
- Ensure all practice is in alignment to the TSA Family Violence Model of Care, Safe and Equal Code of Practice, and FV MARAM Framework
You will have
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent
- It is desired that the practitioner will have a minimum of two years family violence service experience and or demonstrate an in depth understanding of:
- The gendered nature of family violence, the drivers and causes of family violence and feminist, intersectionality and human rights frameworks pertaining to adults and children
- The developmental and therapeutic needs of children who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect
- The skills required to engage and work with men who have perpetrated family violence
- The multi-dimensional issues and complexities associated with family violence including mental health, drugs and alcohol, identification of child abuse and or neglect, housing insecurity; and will understand the referral pathways into appropriate services
- Working in multi-disciplinary teams to provide a multi-agency, integrated response to women and children experiencing family violence and perpetrators of family violence - A Current and Valid Employee Working With Children's Check is required
- A Current Full Australian Driver's Licence
- Be required to undergo Victoria Police Security Checks which will include finger-printing
