About the Roles
The Eastern Treatment Plant (ETP) in Melbourne, one of Australia's most advanced wastewater treatment facilities, plays a crucial role in treating about 40% of the city's sewage, serving 1.6 million people.
Operations are recruiting for five roles within both the Shift Operations and Day Operations teams. These include two leadership positions:
- Lead Operator – Day Operations
- Lead Operator – Shift Operations
- Operator – Day Operations – Two roles
- Operator – Shift Operations
These roles are essential for overseeing plant operations, isolating plant systems, issuing permits, analysing performance, and optimising system efficiency while ensuring compliance. Leadership positions also involve managing and guiding operators, and coordinating specialised projects that enhance the plant’s processes, including the production of high-quality recycled water and the use of biogas for renewable energy.

About you:
- Ability to make decisions and remain focused in a rigorous technical environment.
- Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Excellent level of oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of environmental and safety management systems.
- Experience in the co-ordination, monitoring, and reporting of specialised projects.
- A relevant tertiary qualification/s and/or relevant workplace or operational experience
- Willingness to train for High Voltage Operations and Certificate 3 or greater in Water or Waste Water Operations
- Ability to be trained for wearing Self Constrained Breathing Apparatus
- Criminal Records Check
- Victorian Driver’s Licence
- AusCheck Background check

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.
Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck. This role is deemed critical, and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
