ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Pastoral Care Lead is responsible for the leading the provision of high quality pastoral care and support to students across academic, social, financial, cultural and health needs within the National School of Nursing and Midwifery. This is a key liaison between students and the School, Academic Staff Student Engagement and Success team, Counselling Staff and Student Administration within the university to achieve optimal student experience. One role will be based at the Darlinghurst (Sydney) Campus and one role will be based at the Fremantle Campus.
Key Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate, Lead and provide high level pastoral care and oversee learning and other support to students, dealing with student matters that may be impacting their academic progress which may include financial, social, cultural, personal, physical and mental health needs during their studies; triaging and referral to support services (internal and external) offered by the University as appropriate.
  • Facilitate effective and formal liaison between students and the school, including the relationship with student associations; facilitate student access to Student Services, academic and other support services offered by the University.
  • Working with the Indigenous Office to provide targeted and specific academic support, and pastoral care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within the School
  • Advise the National Head (or delegate) about student issues including requests for transfer into, from or within the School, applications for extended leave, special consideration and other matters related to student welfare, progress or fitness to practice; student breaches of the Code of Conduct and disciplinary matters and maintenance of secure confidential School records.
  • Provide expert academic advice to Head of School in relation to potential academic integrity/misconduct and other matters such as AHPRA notifications/ fitness to practice
  • Liaise between the relevant educational academics and the Head of Discipline and Deputy Head of Discipline with matters regarding student welfare or progress.

ABOUT YOU

  • Registered Nurse with registration with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in nursing and/or midwifery, health or professional practice-based education settings and demonstrated experience with whole of program coordination and associated academic governance
  • Proven ability to manage complex personal and professional issues and experience providing high-quality pastoral care and student support and advice relating to academic progress, clinical/practicum requirements and professional practice.
