The Opportunity

We have an great opportunity for a Head of Field and Logistics to join our team in Melbourne. The Head of Field and Logisitics role at Vocus is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all field operations and logistics functions.

This role ensures that our network infrastructure is robust, our field teams are efficient, and our logistical processes are streamlined to support both operational excellence and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing large-scale field operations, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of supply chain and logistics management within the telecommunications industry. 

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

Leadership and Management: 

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of field engineers, technicians, and logistics personnel. 
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve field operations and logistics efficiency. 
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. 

Field Operations: 

  • Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of long-haul fibreoptic telecommunications infrastructure. 
  • Ensure timely and effective response to network issues and customer service requests. 
  • Coordinate with other departments to support new network deployments and upgrades. 

Logistics Management: 

  • Manage the end-to-end supply chain, including inventory management, and distribution. 
  • Optimize logistics processes to reduce costs and improve delivery times. 
  • Ensure the availability and proper allocation of resources and equipment for field operations. 

Budgeting and Financial Oversight: 

  • Develop and manage the department’s budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial efficiency. 
  • Monitor financial performance and implement measures to achieve financial targets. 

Stakeholder Collaboration: 

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including network planning, customer service, and sales teams, to align field and logistics operations with company goals. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners and suppliers. 

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: 

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of field and logistics operations. 
  • Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on operational performance and areas for improvement. 

Compliance and Risk Management: 

  • Ensure all field operations and logistics activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with field operations and logistics. 

What you’ll bring to this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in field operations and logistics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the telecommunications industry. 
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale field operations and complex networks. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities. 
  • Solid understanding of telecommunications technology and infrastructure. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, while adhering to deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
