Double Bass Music Tutor

Melbourne Grammar School is seeking a Double Bass Music Tutor to teach individual instrumental lessons to students and being an assistant tutor for the Year 2 Strings programme in our Junior School, Grimwade House. The Tutor will also assist with the Grimwade String Orchestra and will work as a member of a highly dedicated Music Department, teaching students in an individual setting.

This role is based at Grimwade House, our coeducational primary school for around 660 Prep – Year 6 students in Caulfield. Here, students build the academic foundations that will support them throughout their education supported by expert teachers, a contemporary curriculum, a dynamic range of co-curricular activities, and a strong pastoral care program.

You will

  • Teach individual instrumental lessons
  • Prepare students for performances / workshops and Year 2 class for lessons and ensemble.
  • Support the Teacher in Charge with teaching repertoire and lessons.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills that enable you to maintain open communication with parents and colleagues.
  • Enjoy interacting with enthusiastic boys and girls who are keen to learn.
  • Assist Year 2 String workshops and concerts for rehearsals and performances.

About you

  • Double Bass as a primary instrument
  • Completion of a degree in music/instrumental education, or equivalent industry experience is required
  • Experience in teaching of primary aged children considered an advantage
  • Must hold, or be willing to obtain, a Working with Children Check.
