Research Assistant – Vascular Epigenetics

Full-time, 2-year fixed-term contract.

Onsite. Darlinghurst, Sydney, NSW

Reporting to: Head, Vascular Epigenetics​

The role

As Research Assistant in the Vascular Epigenetics Laboratory, headed by Dr Renjing Liu, you will play a crucial role in contributing to studies that will uncover the fundamental processes involved in vascular disease development.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant scientific discoveries and work alongside leading expects in the field.​

About you

You are a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong passion for research, holding a Bachelor's degree in Science (Honours) with at least one year of lab experience.

You are capable of performing independent work and thrive in an environment that values professional development through high standards and constructive feedback.

What we will trust you with

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and execution of research studies related to vascular diseases (including literature reviews, data collection, and analysis).
  • Conduct laboratory experiments, maintaining records and ensuring adherence to protocols.
  • Assist with animal surgeries, perform injections, and pre and post-op monitoring.
  • Tissue harvesting and preparation for downstream uses, including histology, RNA, and protein analysis.
  • Manage and organise research data for analysis.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and team members from other labs, contributing to the preparation of research reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments and techniques, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills.

Does this sound like you?

Essential

  • Bachelor of Science (Cellular/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field). An Honours or Master's degree is preferred.
  • Some previous laboratory/wet bench experience.
  • Demonstrated experience quickly adapting to change and acquiring new skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team and to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Committed to undertaking continued professional development.

Desirable

  • Animal and cell culture experience.
  • Previous experience with using transgenic mouse models for studies, particularly knowledge and experience using the Cre/loxP system.
  • Experience with i.p., i.v., and s.c., injections.
  • Experience with tissue harvesting.​
