**About you**:
You are a stem cell biologist with a passion for medical research. You have an interest in understanding the mechanisms of heart rhythm disturbances and discovering better antiarrhythmic drugs and want to work with world-class scientists on cutting-edge cardiovascular studies.

**The role***: We are seeking a highly motivated research assistant to work on an MRFF/NSW OHMR-funded project using induced pluripotent stem cells and engineered heart tissues to probe the mechanistic basis of atrial fibrillation, and to use these models to develop better and safer antiarrhythmic drugs.

Your work will help to understand how diverse pathways including obesity, inflammation, fibrosis and genetics drive the development of atrial fibrillation. As part of this, you will be responsible for culture, maintenance and differentiation of cardiac cell types, manufacture of engineered tissues, and scale up of cell production using robotics and/or bioreactors.

You will be part of a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team across laboratories within VCCRI as well as more broadly across the nodes of the MRFF team.

The role is an opportunity to undertake fundamental research that will directly help families living with heart disease.
This is a full-time, 2-year fixed term contract.

**Does this sound like you?***:

- Technical training in mammalian cell culture, preferably hESC or iPSC.
- Experience in tissue engineering / organoids
- Experience in large-scale cell culture / organoids
- High self-motivation and capability for independent work.
- Experience in grant and manuscript writing.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High ethical standards.
- Have Australian citizenship or permanent residency, or relevant working rights for the duration of the fixed term contract.
