The Opportunity

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Privacy Officer to join Legal and Governance team either in Melbourne or Sydney on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, maintenance and adherence to APA’s privacy policies, standards, and procedures in compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) scheme and other related federal, state legislation or E.g. Fair Work Act.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operationalisation of company-wide Privacy Standards, procedures and supporting tools related to privacy controls

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and third-party suppliers to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments, identify, and assess privacy risks and recommend appropriate controls

  • Work with data owners and stewards to maintain the personal information register with records of all data processing activities carried out by the APA ensuring a robust data registry that is accessible to all relevant stakeholders encompassing all group activities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of privacy compliance enterprise and targeted training and conduct privacy training and awareness activities for internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure the organisations activities comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and other regulatory requirements

Your background

  • Tertiary qualification in law, business, or related field

  • Minimum 5-10+ years’ experience in privacy, compliance, legal, Audit, risk functions

  • Strong understanding of the Privacy Act, Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) scheme and other related regulations

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, collaboration, influencing cross -functional teams and building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience developing and operationalising policies, standards, and procedures

  • Extensive experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments
