What we are looking for 

An experienced, passionate and collaborative child and youth engagement professional to join our Impact and Engagement Team to deliver results for children and young people. They will support the successful implementation of UNICEF Australia’s child and youth engagement strategy which aims to achieve our goal of every child ​in Australia will have experienced ​a meaningful connection with UNICEF ​by the age of 18​. They will deliver key initiatives supporting including school and digital engagement, our Young Ambassador Program and a range of community and sector consultations.  

Your day will include

  • ​​​​Implementing our Child & Youth Engagement Strategy key initiatives working across the Australian team and key stakeholders   
  • Designing and delivering a range of child and youth focused high-impact initiatives through educational programs and digital engagement tools 
  • Building relationships with schools and community organisations to create meaningful engagement opportunities for diverse groups of children and young people 
  • Managing the UNICEF Australia Young Ambassador Program delivery and providing support and mentorship to participants (about 12 young people) 
  • Advising and building UNICEF’s capacity to engagement children and young people  
  • Co-developing stories of impact from child and youth engagement initiatives and the views of young people on issues that matter to them 
  • Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of our activities and reporting back to funders on progress and impact 

We would like you to have the following skills and experience

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant area of study including teaching, youth work, counselling/psychology 
  • Strong understanding of Child Safeguarding practices  
  • Extensive experience working with children and young people including designing and delivering youth engagement programs and the ability to adapt communication accordingly 
  • Excellent relationship, stakeholder management and influencing skills with the credibility to partner with schools, sector peers, international colleagues and youth-led organisations  
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-initiative planning and project management  
  • A passionate, accountable and self-aware team member with a genuine interest in working in the international aid and development sector  
  • Leadership capabilities, collaboration and ability to adapt to change 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a policy environment, preferably with a child rights or human rights focus
