A job to be proud of:

We are currently seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team and help lead and drive our data initiatives to new heights. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining St John WA’s data warehouse and data pipelines, as well as administering business intelligence and data visualisation tools. 

What you’ll do:

The Principal Data Engineer works closely with Business Intelligence Analysts and a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the organisation has access to a robust, reliable, and timely data foundation to inform decision making. Reporting to the Manager Data Engineering & Governance, you will be responsible for driving efficiencies through automation, and documentation, as well as taking a lead role in coaching junior staff and advocating for best practice methodologies.

Your technical and leadership skills will be crucial in driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the team's ongoing success in supporting the data needs of the business.

What you’ll need:

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Data Engineering or IT senior technical role
  • 2 years’ experience working with cloud technology, ideally Azure
  • Demonstrated experience leading or guiding technical teams

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong understanding of data engineering processes and functions (eg ETL, Data Warehousing) and data concepts
  • Experience in SQL and data development
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment where collaboration and innovation are key

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary or related qualification (business, commerce, information systems or other quantitative field) with a continuous record of professional development
  • Relevant certifications from cloud platform vendors (such as Microsoft DP203 or AZ305) advantageous
