About the Role

Grampians Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (GMHWS) Adult Community Mental Health Team (North Sector) is seeking dedicated clinicians to deliver timely and consistent mental health support to consumers and families. Clinicians will conduct biopsychosocial assessments, provide ongoing treatment, and collaborate with consumers, their carers/families, the multidisciplinary team, and other supportive agencies to achieve agreed goals and outcomes. Clinicians use a recovery framework, focusing on a strengths based approach.

This role requires flexibility, covering weekends, to facilitate urgent assessments and support consumers in their homes, including those from aged and youth services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence based and best practice clinical assessments and treatments
  • Actively and effectively work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the generic and discipline specific expertise of the team.
  • Undertake comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, identify and prioritise consumer and family needs, including risk assessment and management.
  • Develop collaborative care plans within a recovery framework that works towards discharge from the service.
  • Attendance at the Mental Health Tribunal and completion of tribunal reports.
  • Monitoring of physical health conditions and promotion of physical wellbeing.
  • Coordinate admission to the inpatient unit and actively engage with the inpatient unit to facilitate discharge planning.

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurses: Approved degree/diploma/post graduate certificate from a recognised School of Nursing and current registration within the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Social workers: Approved degree from a recognised Educational Facility for Social Workers
  • Occupational therapist: Approved degree from a recognised Educational Facility for Occupational Therapist and current registration within the Australian Health Practitioner regulation Agency.
  • Psychologist: Approved degree from a recognised Educational Facility and general registration under Australian Health Practitioner regulation Agency.
  • Appointment to RPN4 positions must have completed either a post graduate diploma in Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing or a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or a specialist post basic course of training which led to registration as a division3 nurse. A substantial period of work experience (usually at least 5 years) to achieve expert knowledge.
  • Demonstrates an ability to provide leadership, including developing clinical expertise within the team through mentoring, training, teaching and supervision.
  • Good knowledge of the recovery model and how this informs engage with consumers and families.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Mental health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • Able to support team with ability to recognize and proactively co-ordinate clinical responses within a multidisciplinary team context
  • Knowledge and experience of community liaison and the development of community networks.
  • Sound knowledge of medication and side effects specific to consumers with a mental illness,
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care.
  • Knowledge of substance use and impact on mental health.

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 (NP75 – NP77) which ranges from $56.07 - $60.38 per hour

Up to $15,000 incentive payments may be available to support relocation

(paid as a reimbursement for Bond and rent, travel costs, removalists, accommodation, visa application fees and more).

The Victorian Government has allocated funds to support rural and regional Area Mental Health Services (AMHS) to provide incentives to attract workers to roles that are difficult to fill.

The new workforce relocation and incentive grants program is being administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV).
