: ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) is seeking applications from highly motivated and experienced individuals, to fill the position of Head Chef (GSO9), within Custodial Operations. This position is based at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) in Hume.The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the production of meals for a large number of people, both detainees & staff to ensure the highest quality of food quality is achieved & maintained.
Further to this, you will ensure all food preparation and production is compliant with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines. You will also assist in maintaining a secure and safe workplace at all times, for both staff & detainees, and comply with work health & safety legislation.
In addition, you will ensure the correct quantities of food products are ordered, received & prepared to maintain the efficient & smooth operation of the catering department, this will include the coordination of the various catering functions.
This position involves direct supervision of catering staff and up to 22 detainees working in the AMC Kitchen. The AMC catering unit utilises detainee labour for the provision of food services which allows the detainee to gain real work experience in commercial Kitchen and Bakery settings. This experience is also supported by the delivery of vocational education and training in food related units giving the detainees food industry pathways post release.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to think and act in a busy operational environment and possess excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills necessary to build rapport with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) - Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Eligible candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history check. Certificate IV in workplace training and assessment desirable. Applicants may be required to undertake psychological aptitude testing as part of the assessment process.
