We're REA

REA Group is not your average digital business. From humble beginnings in a garage in Melbourne’s east in 1995, we have grown into a leading global digital business, specialising in property.

With bold and ambitious goals, we are changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.

Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we’re proud to be named in Australia’s “Top 5” Best Workplaces two years in a row, as well as being recognised as a Best Workplace for Women.

Where the team fits in

The Enterprise Tech (ETech) team is responsible for providing the technology and data platforms underpinning REA's products, services, and operations. The team consists of around 160 people, which are distributed across the SPACE, Enterprise Technology and Data Services teams.

ETech is responsible for making all REA employees happy and productive by empowering them with technology. We also play an integral role providing strategic, commercial input and guidance around decisions across all levels of the business, while continually improving the ‘behind the scenes’ of REA to support our people, as well as providing support to all other functional areas of the business around the globe.

What The Role Is All About

As a Lead Systems Engineer you will be responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining our Enterprise Systems. You’ll become an integral part of an agile team, providing your expertise of systems engineering & design, operational work practices, fault finding and incident management. You will be expected to implement sustainable solutions in a collaborative and creative work environment to support our many lines of business. You will use your skills and experience to mentor other systems engineers. You will be responsible for:

Driving engineering excellence in the implementation of infrastructure, operations, networking, operating systems, computing, and storage initiatives

Play a lead role, guiding and mentoring our Engineers through the development of their capabilities and growing their careers

People management to several Systems Engineers, including regular performance feedback/EoY reviews with a passion to see your team grow and develop

Engage with the wider System Engineering/Architecture community on behalf of ETech, identifying opportunities for tooling/pattern reuse

Contribute to our future of Tech strategy with the Enterprise Architect and the ETech Leadership team and assist in determining future skill and capability requirements to support our strategy

Provide technical direction for the tribe and guide team decisions

Identify improvement opportunities within the Engineering team and the wider ETech tribe – this may include (but not limited to) reduction of the cost of ownership of our systems, identification of system duplication and overall process improvement

In conjunction with other senior team members, architecting well-structured and documented vendor and system integrations between our systems

Work with the ETech Leadership team to continuously improve ways of working and contribute to team and tribe culture

Take regular scheduled shifts on-call to support key services outside business hours

Contributing to the REA knowledge base through blog posts, brown-bags sessions and coaching less experienced members of the team
