About the role

The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia.

At Youthlink we work with young people who are at risk for a variety of reasons such as homelessness, drug and alcohol problems, social isolation, mental illness and family trauma. We believe that every person has potential, despite their life problems and experiences. Our aim for these young people is to offer HOPE

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Youthlink Reconnect Coordinator/Counsellor to co-ordinate Youthlink’s Reconnect program covering the Blacktown Local Government Area and to provide individual and family counselling.

Reporting to the Regional Manager this is a permanent, part-time (30.4 hours per week) position based in Blacktown,NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with Health Professionals and Support Services Award Level 4.

You will successfully
  • Coordinate an accessible, fast, mobile, flexible and free crisis intervention service. This includes, handling inquiries and referrals, assessing needs, offering immediate crisis support and practical assistance.

  • Provide individual counselling, family mediation, conflict resolution, specialist referrals and support directed towards individual healing and improved family relationships, effecting family reconciliation wherever appropriate.

  • Assist young people to link or re-link into education, training, employment and the community.

  • Assist in the organising and running of educational workshops, seminars and groups for young people and/or parents to meet identified needs.

  • Participate in Youthlink staff development days, team leader’s meetings and Reconnect team meetings.

  • Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of referral and support options for participants.

  • Work collaboratively with TSA Youthlink management and funding bodies.

You will have
  • ​A current NSW Working With Children Check.

  • A valid NSW Driver's Licence.

  • A current First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain one.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or other allied health discipline recognised by the tertiary mental health services sector.

  • Registration with AHPRA and/or other professional association.

  • Experience in the coordination and delivery of youth services inclusive of specialist skills in assessing, managing and treating clients.

  • A strong team focus with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and build relationships with people of all backgrounds.

  • An in depth knowledge of strength based focused practice.

  • Knowledge of work health safety obligations.

  • Knowledge of community services and health sectors.

  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.

  • Experience working with data record systems.

  • Have a clear understanding and/or knowledge of the concept and impact of youth homelessness and disengagement issues in the community.

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to impart knowledge in a learning environment.
