Sydney, Australia WSP Full time
  •  Join WSP Australia’s Water Utilities team
  • Work on key regional and national water industry projects
  • Permanent role, flexible work arrangements.

At WSP Australia, we’re committed to excellence in water infrastructure. Due to an increase in projects in our Water Utilities team we’re seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join us and contribute mechanical engineering expertise to critical water infrastructure projects. If you’re passionate about designing solutions that create a positive impact on communities, this is the role for you

About the role:

As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping water and wastewater systems. Your expertise will drive technical quality, enhance client satisfaction, and increase the capabilities of WSP’s Water Utilities team.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide Technical Leadership: Lead the mechanical and hydraulic design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Your work will span the entire project life cycle.
  • Prepare Documentation and Proposals: Prepare concise, high-quality technical documentation and assist in crafting compelling proposals.
  • Drive Project Management: Manage designs across multiple projects or program work packages.
  • Encourage Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to exceed expectations.

 About You:

If you know that water hammer isn’t Aquaman’s weapon of choice (but that it can do more damage) we’d love to hear from you

You are a Senior, Associate, or Principal-level Mechanical Engineer with demonstrated experience working on water industry projects such as pump stations, pipelines, hydraulics, and/or treatment plants, but we are also interested in hearing from you if you’ve worked as a mechanical engineer on some non-traditional water industry projects (fish lifts, anyone?).

You enjoy engaging with clients and creating innovative solutions, and you can write reports which are clear and logical. You also enjoy sharing your mechanical engineering expertise through mentoring junior engineers.

You will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered member of Engineers Australia or working towards CPEng certification.
  • At least 12 years’ experience working as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Proven experience in engineering consultancy or design roles (water industry experience is advantageous).
  • Technical proficiency in water and wastewater conveyance and treatment.
  • Expertise in hydraulic design, pump stations, and equipment selection.
  • Familiarity with stress analysis and relevant software tools.
  • Effective communication skills for technical reports and client interactions.
