About the role

Mater Health has an exciting Permanent and Part-Time (28.5 hours a week) opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist Assistant to join the team based at our South Brisbane campus in our Rehabilitation unit. This will see you join a multifaceted service and flexibility to work weekday and weekend shifts is a requirement given this is a seven-day rehabilitation service.

Salary range: $33.19 - $34.67 (OO3) per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and  

What you’ll be doing

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will provide support to and be supervised by Occupational Therapists who work across a Rehabilitation Unit and contribute as an active member of the occupational therapy team.

Specific responsibilities of the role will include (but not be limited to):

Assisting Occupational Therapists directly with patient care as part of the patient treatment plan Assisting Occupational Therapists indirectly with patient care through: preparation of materials, equipment and environment for therapy sessionsmanufacturing or adapting equipment of clothing for patients, along with sewing customised splints, under the direction of an Occupational TherapistStocktake and ordering of therapy and service supplies Assisting Occupational Therapist with non-clinical tasks including audio visual set-up, technical support and daily operational task Maintaining the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the therapy environment to ensure efficiency of the department and patient/staff safety Liaising with other hospital departments to facilitate repairs, cleaning, administrative or volunteer support as needed Working operationally with OTA colleagues to manage collective workload requirements

About you

Suitable applicants will need to demonstrate the following:

Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant or in similar role (ideally within a hospital setting), including liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders to assist patients Exceptional interpersonal, communication and time management skills Understanding of the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality Effective ability to work cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team Proactively contribute to continual improvement process to maximise the level of patient care

While no formal qualification is required for this role, those applicants who have completed a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance will be viewed favourably.
