Senior Technical Specialist - Java 

  • $142,374 per annum + superannuation 

  • x2 Full time, Fixed term positions to 31/08/2025 

  • Geelong based (hybrid working model – 3 days in the office)

About the role 

As a key member of an Agile Delivery Development team, the role will provide technical leadership and direction to technical specialists and system analysts and lead the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives within technical practices such as software development and system integration and will ensure production of documentation to enable colleagues to support, maintain and develop applications.  

The Senior Technical Specialist (Java) provides a range of technical services supporting, maintaining, enhancing, designing, building and deploying features and modules to WorkSafe for a range of applications including business critical products. 

Key accountabilities: 

  • Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate software design methods, tools and techniques; selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches 

  • Takes technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development. Plans and drives software construction activities 

  • Measures and monitors applications of project/team standards for software construction including software security 

  • Contributes to the development of solution architectures in specific business, infrastructure or functional areas. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the trade-offs in cost, performance and scalability 

  • Drafts and maintains procedures and documentation for applications support. Manages application enhancements to improve business performance. Advises on application security, licensing, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery needs 

  • Allocates routine tasks and/or project work. Provides direction, support and guidance as necessary, in line with individuals’ skills and abilities.

About you 

You have extensive experience leveraging software delivery methods with extensive knowledge of object-oriented programming and the application of design patters. Your communication and interpersonal skills are excellent with the ability to effectively communicate complex technology solutions to both business and technical audiences. You are a team oriented person who enjoys delivering, leading and making an impact on your team and stakeholders. Further, you will also possess: 

  • Extensive experience developing web-based Java applications and web service integrations 

  • Significant knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross functional agile delivery 

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills with an ability to think laterally to identify practical and workable solutions  

  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, work accurately with attention to detail and meet deadlines 

  • Knowledge of Salesforce is desired. 

Qualifications: 

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications or Industry experience
