Principal Insurance Advisor
Share Temp contract until June 2024 (full-time hours) Salary range between $112k - $126k / year + Super (Stream A, Level 8.1 - 8.5) 9-day fortnight in a flexible environment and ongoing development opportunities

This temporary Principal Insurance Advisor is a newly created niche role, that will sit in the Corporate Governance Branch. This role plays an integral part of the already high performing team; Where attention to detail, collaboration and teamwork are celebrated.

As the Principal Insurance Advisor , your main focus will be facilitating the insurance program, while also establishing and maintaining a risk strategy to ensure insurance coverage is appropriate for Council and reduces risk exposures to acceptable levels. You will exercise a high degree of autonomy and are comfortable in decision making with the organisational goals and achieve outcomes under broad direction from the Governance, Risk and Compliance Program Leader.

Elements of the role include:

Apply expert specialist knowledge and provide advice about the ongoing insurance strategy for Council, including recommendations on classes of insurance, limits, deductibles, and other risk transfer strategies. Develop a risk culture by raising awareness and educating stakeholders at Council about the relationship between effective risk management and insurance. Maintain specialist knowledge of emerging trends and products in the insurance industry and provide insight to Council for consideration for future insurance program enhancements. Provide expert technical guidance across the teams within the Risk and Compliance Program, to deliver excellence in accordance with the Branch Business Plan. Support the Program Leader to coordinate the development of business improvements that align with the strategic direction of the Branch and Council. Develop and monitor system, process and procedure enhancements to maximise efficiency of operations and ensure continuous business improvement. Display engaging interpersonal skills to communicate complex concepts in plain language and build collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external industry stakeholders. Provide regular, strategic written reports and information to key stakeholders such as Program Leaders, Branch Managers, Executive Leadership team, and Councilors. Communicate in an effective and professional manner as a representative of Council at forums and meetings.

Minimum requirements of the role include:

A tertiary qualification in insurance, governance and / or risk  Demonstrated success in providing high level strategic and technical insurance advice at all levels  Extensive knowledge of the general insurance market Highly organised and are able to meet critical deadlines Strong communication and negotiation skills and ability to influence with tact
