PUBLIC – I1 – A1 Page 2 of 4 Job & Person Specification Job Specification About the Role The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of existing Business Intelligence (BI) systems, and the design and implementation of new BI solutions for the LSA. The role is also responsible for managing the LSA’s data warehouse environment and providing specialist advice to stakeholders to translate business problems or objectives into BI products. Delivering data insights that enhances strategic planning, evidence-based decision making, process improvements and improved service delivery are key objectives of this role. Key Responsibilities BI Development ? Establish and maintain relationship with stakeholders and customers to understand operational challenges and priorities in order to co-ordinate and deliver significant data solutions that meet business requirements. ? Plan and initiate the implementation of best-practice processes, standards and documentation for analytics development, data migration and data warehousing within the LSA, including the application of Kimball data warehousing methodologies. ? Apply extensive knowledge and expertise developing accurate and clean data to drive more efficient and accurate analysis and management of risk to prevent incorrect decisions being made. ? Drives continuous improvement by monitoring and analysing current systems, practices and procedures and implementing solutions which are progressive. ? Design, build and maintain Microsoft SQL databases to ensure a robust and available data warehouse as part of the BI environment, utilising data modelling (star schema) architecture. ? Build, develop, manage and enhance ETL processes from a range of source systems and disparate data sources using Alteryx Workflows and Alteryx Scheduler. ? Develop regular reports, dashboards or data visualisations in Tableau and provide Tableau Server administration. ? Maintain the structure and automation of LSA’s Business Intelligence platform as well as acting as a Data custodian. ? Manage data governance and change management to ensure a robust production data environment and experience. ? Provide expert advice on and contribute to the building of capability in the use of BI tools and software across the LSA through ongoing coaching and communication with end-users. Key Selection Criteria Essential Minimum Requirements Education / Vocational Qualifications ? A relevant qualification in, or minimum of 2 years’ experience using the following technologies in a business setting: ? Microsoft SQL ? Alteryx Designer and Alteryx Scheduler ? Data visualization software such as Tableau or Power BI ? Enterprise data modelling tools (Enterprise Architect, Erwin, TOAD etc.) Skills, Knowledge & Experience ? Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Business Intelligence Developer/Analyst or equivalent role. ? High level experience of complex BI development functions, including SQL database development and administration, data modelling, creating reports, dashboards or data visualisations in Tableau or a similar tool. ? Strong experience in planning, designing, implementing and managing MS SQL data warehouses, including data modelling (star schemas). ? Proven ability to manage and execute ETL using Alteryx and MS SQL to ensure a robust and available data warehouse as part of a BI Environment. ? Experience in using, applying and maintaining data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI. ? Demonstrated experience using Kimball and Agile data warehousing methodologies, including modelling of star schemas. ? Experience with API technologies and protocols to extract data from source systems. ? Proven high level experience in working collaboratively and liaising with a range of stakeholders to establish and maintain strong working relationships to effectively analyse complex situations and achieve suitable outcomes through the use of data, analytics and reporting. ? Highly-developed customer service, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to influence and work collaboratively with stakeholders in the design of effective, value-add BI solutions and products. ? Proven ability to work independently under limited direction, as well as collaboratively within a team, taking the initiative to make well informed and timely technical decisions in a fast-paced work environment. ? Strong analytical and problem solving skills to collaborate on the development of alternative data solutions and strategies to meet requirements and the ability to clearly articulate advice to management and executive staff. ? Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism including the ability to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
