The opportunity
Our client is a large federal government agency responsible for implementing Australia’s largest social reform since Medicare. They have a great opportunity for an EL1 Assistant Director Evidence Synthesis to join the Research and Evaluation Branch, and lead a team to support and contribute to a range of long-term strategic research projects.

  • Initial 12 month contract with ongoing extensions highly likely
  • Role open to all major cities nationally, excellent flexibility, mostly work-from-home
  • EL1 level with a daily rate of $602.55 plus super

The Role
As the EL1 Assistant Director Evidence Synthesis, you will support the planning and conduct of evidence reviews (e.g., systematic reviews, living reviews, meta-analyses) and primary research aiming to deliver the best available research evidence to inform Agency decisions. It is a junior leadership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership and management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities and managing workflows of a team.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Working with internal & external stakeholders to scope, develop and manage project plans
  • Designing and documenting protocols for environmental scans, evidence snapshots, scoping or systematic reviews of evidence relevant to participants or models of practice
  • Conducting searches of scientific and grey literature in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards
  • Performing research in line with documented protocols for inclusion/exclusion of records, data extraction, quality appraisal and data synthesis
  • Maintaining project related records including research software or platforms
  • Engaging with external and internal stakeholders to interpret findings and support translation
  • Preparing and presenting research reports and recommendations for different stakeholders, including internal slide-pack summaries for stakeholders
  • Contributing methodological or subject matter expertise in research methods, psychosocial disability, early childhood interventions or neurological disorders or other areas with relevance to disability supports
  • Supervising a small team on ad-hoc or ongoing basis Supporting the growth of junior staff
  • Leading or supporting broader projects across the Branch

About You
The successful applicant will have:

  • A strong understanding of academic and professional research, and an extensive background in quantitative and qualitative Research
  • Demonstrated skills and experience specifically within Evidence Synthesis, meta-analysis, and statistical analysis using R,
  • Strong experience in planning & conducting systematic reviews of research evidence, and familiarity with evidence synthesis methods
  • Prior research experience in disability, psychology, medicine, epidemiology, education, economics, social science, statistics or related fields
  • Previous research leadership experience, with strong research project management and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Strong technical skills within research, including qualitative, quantitative, data presentation and communication
