Opportunity

We are actively searching for a distinguished scholar of either international or national acclaim to become an integral part of the thriving discipline of Classics and Archaeology within the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies. Assuming the role of Professor in Archaeology, you will hold a pivotal position in driving forward the research, scholarship, and teaching of specialised content within our esteemed department. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a collegial team of faculty members, fostering a collaborative and supportive academic environment.

The successful candidate will be able to join a unique engagement platform allowing them to advocate for their discipline in the public sphere, ensuring that critical issues are comprehensively communicated to the community.

The incumbent will report to the Head of School, undertaking teaching responsibilities across all levels while overseeing the coordination of both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects. Additionally, they will manage associated administrative duties related to subject delivery and assessment. Providing leadership and research-oriented mentorship to staff members will be another key aspect of this role, alongside contributing to the production of the program’s esteemed peer-reviewed academic journal, Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

About You

We are currently seeking to appoint a full Professor in Archaeology with a specialization in Near Eastern or East Mediterranean archaeology, focusing on field archaeology within the ancient Near East and Eastern Mediterranean regions spanning from the Bronze Age to the conclusion of the Achaemenid Persian Period. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in leading archaeological fieldwork projects, coupled with a proven track record of excellence in both teaching and research.

Qualifications and attributes sought include:

Possession of a completed PhD in the Archaeology of the ancient Near East or Eastern Mediterranean civilizations. An internationally recognized publication record characterized by distinction and innovation. Demonstrated success in securing nationally and/or internationally competitive research grants. Ability to effectively supervise honours and postgraduate coursework degree theses. This position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
