About the Role


The Computational Modelling Specialist will support the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century by developing software workflows, providing computational training, and collaborating with researchers across multiple institutions. This role is crucial for advancing climate and weather research through high-performance computing and big-data approaches.

Your responsibilities will include:

Work collaboratively as a member of a distributed team of computational modelling specialists, within the Centre’s Modelling Science Project. Configure, run, and modify experimental versions of the Australian community climate model (ACCESS) Create and maintain technical documentation and contribute to the preparation of articles for publication. Work closely and collaboratively with other staff across the Centre, under the technical direction of a more senior staff member.

Who We Are Looking For
You will ideally possess demonstrated knowledge of best practices in software engineering and have a strong technical background. Additionally, you have effective written and oral communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills and a service mindset.

You will also have:

A postgraduate qualification in science, software engineering, or closely related fields. Demonstrated experience with software development in a version controlled scientific environment, in particular solving physical problems using numerical algorithms. Experience in computer languages such as: Fortran, Python and C/C++ in a Unix/Linux environment. Experience with MPI-based parallelisation and with high-performance computing.
