Program Lead (Social Worker or Psychologist): Northern Centre Against Sexual Assault (NCASA)

Part time, 0.8EFT

Location: Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital Campus

Classification: Psychologist or Social Worker Grade 4

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and state-wide.  We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our purpose, which is to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.

About the Northern Centre Against Sexual Assault

NCASA is the regional sexual assault support service for Northern Metropolitan Melbourne and a department of Austin Health.

NCASA provides therapeutic counselling to adults and young people over the age of 12 years, who have experienced sexual assault in the past or recently, and to their non-offending family members and friends. NCASA provides a range of services including 24-hour crisis care for victims of a recent sexual assault, counselling, group work, advocacy, secondary consultation and training for other professionals and community education. NCASA is involved in a range of activities aimed at preventing gender-based violence.

At NCASA we value inclusivity, diversity and intersectionality, are passionate about ensuring victim/ survivors are provided with timely support and that the silence which surrounds sexual assault continues to be broken.

We believe that the journey undertaken by people recovering from sexual assault trauma, by dealing with its impacts, is one of spirit, hope and dignity.  People can and do overcome the effects of sexual assault.

About the role

Demonstrating leadership and an extensive understanding of the field, the Program Lead will, in conjunction with the Manager of NCASA, take a leading role in department planning and development, quality improvement and ensuring that the clinical service is aligned with organisational & service sector objectives, professional standards and ethics.

They will be leaders in building professional knowledge on the prevention, causes, impacts, and on recovery after sexual violence, with an emphasis on quality, research, and program evaluation.

This role includes the provision of clinical & operational supervision of senior clinical and administration staff. Ideally, it also includes the provision of assessment, therapeutic intervention, advocacy and psychoeducation to people impacted upon by sexual assault.

All NCASA services are delivered within a clearly articulated intersectional feminist, rights based and trauma informed practice framework.

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Relevant formal qualifications and registrations (as applicable) in Social Work or Psychology.
  • At least 10 years of experience providing a therapeutic response to sexual assault or trauma.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, service redesign & strategic planning.
