Camberwell, Australia Breast Cancer Network Australia Full time

Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is Australia’s leading breast cancer consumer organisation. We provide information and support to those diagnosed and their supporters, opportunities to connect with others going through a similar situation and work to influence a stronger healthcare system to ensure all Australians affected by breast cancer receive the very best care, treatment and support. BCNA was born out of a small group of determined women who wanted to make the breast cancer journey better. In 1998, when Lyn Swinburne founded BCNA, her vision was for no one to feel alone through their experience of breast cancer. In 2023, that vision still remains our priority. This year over 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer, including 200 men. Sadly, we will also lose about 3,000 people to the disease. Over the past 25 years, we have built a strong and resilient network that brings together over 175,000 individuals. We are led by the lived experience of those who have already been diagnosed and we are driven every day to make the experience better for those who will be diagnosed tomorrow. BCNA is represented by the Pink Lady silhouette – symbolic of BCNA’s focus on the people affected by breast cancer and all those around them, not the disease. Supporting the Director People and Culture, the position of People & Culture Advisor will be responsible for providing timely and accurate administration, advice, support and education to all staff at Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). As a passionate and driven HR generalist, eager to learn and grow, this role will see you collaborating with the People & Culture team to inspire a positive and engaged culture of inclusion, accountability and respect. You will contribute to building solid HR foundations that set strong processes and policies in place to recruit, attract, onboard, manage, develop and retain our most valuable assets – our people. You will thrive on ensuring best practices, contributing to the development and effective delivery and implementation of various people programs and initiatives. As we work towards simplifying and optimising our HR processes through our HRIS, this role will be responsible for developing key people metrics that will inform data-driven insights to enable the People and Culture function to remain an integral part of building the success of BCNA. Key Responsibilities: Provide support and guidance to employees on HR-related matters, including policies, procedures, and best practices. Assist in the recruitment process by collaborating with hiring managers to create job descriptions, conduct interviews, and facilitate onboarding activities. Support the maintenance of HR systems and records to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation. Prepare regular reporting to monitor key people activities and provide insights that will shape our focus for support and other initiatives. Assist in the development of HR policies, procedures, and engagement initiatives that align with organisational goals and promote a positive work culture. Support the Director P&C to effectively respond to issues such as complaints and performance; provide coaching to managers, and implement appropriate resolutions. Contribute to the development and delivery of learning activities to enhance employee skills and knowledge. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of HR principles and practices. As a self-motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic individual, you will possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. A proactive approach to problem-solving along with a collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships are essential for this role. If you are passionate about making a difference within a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting those affected by breast cancer, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

  1. Demonstrated HR generalist experience with a proven record of providing sound and timely HR advice.
  2. Demonstrated experience across the employee lifecycle, including end-to-end recruitment and selection processes.
  3. Experience and understanding of relevant legislation and contemporary developments in HR management.
  4. Payroll experience desirable.
  5. Experience with HR information systems (such as ELMO) and HR Metrics desirable.
