Team OverviewOur Safety team is focused on fostering a culture of Safer Choices Together throughout the organization. By enhancing awareness and support, and collaborating on best practices, we are committed to creating a safer, more vibrant workplace every day. As a pivotal figure, the Safety Lead will mentor and guide a team of safety advisors across the VIC/TAS regions.
Role ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:
- Lead and mentor a team of safety advisors, partnering with the business to enhance their capability and confidence in integrating safety into daily operations.
- Provide expert advice to Regional Managers and members of the State Leadership Team, empowering them to cultivate a positive safety culture and achieve excellent results in both people and food safety metrics.
- Support the State Safety Manager in executing the State Safety Plan and key initiatives.
- Coach and develop safety advisors to bolster their skills and assist in implementing regional safety strategies.
- Participate in investigations of serious or reportable safety incidents to identify root causes and contributing factors, and to establish controls aimed at risk reduction.
- Drive safety enhancements and risk mitigation in key regions by analyzing data and collaborating with Safety Advisors to implement safety plans and actions.
- Manage regulatory issues comprehensively until resolution, fostering positive relationships throughout the process.
- Contribute operational expertise to people and food safety systems and engage in self-insurance and governance audits as necessary.
- Be available on weekends and after hours to support safety advisors and the operations team during serious incidents.
- Travel as needed to support Safety Advisors and the Operations team across interstate and remote/regional areas.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in health and safety or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management and practical guidance for businesses.
- Demonstrated experience in managing risk and providing actionable advice to organizations.
- A proven track record of achieving results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong coaching abilities, with experience in guiding team members and leaders to drive behavioral change.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- The ability to work autonomously under pressure, making informed, risk-based decisions to enhance performance.
- Flexibility to work between state offices and various locations.
- Outstanding communication skills.
