About the role:

This is a full-time contract opportunity to June 2025 (35 hours per week) located in Campbelltown NSW. Starting base annual salary $91,297 to $96,882 based on experience, plus super, plus access to generous salary packaging options.

About Uniting:

When your part of Uniting NSW.ACT, your part of a diverse, purpose-led team of people who are really making a difference to the world around them.

We contribute to the work and mission of the Uniting Church in NSW and the ACT through social justice advocacy, community services and spiritual care. We provide care and support for people through all ages and stages of life, with a focus on people experiencing disadvantage and vulnerability. Our purpose is to inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice.

Uniting leaders and employees work together to create a culture that is safe, inclusive and person-centred. We bring this to life every day through our values: compassionate, respectful, imaginative and bold.

Uniting acknowledges the continuing sovereignty and rich cultural diversity of Australia’s First Peoples. We pay our respects to all Elders – past, present, and emerging – and to all First Peoples on whose lands we live and work.

Uniting is a Child Safe Organisation committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of children and young people.

About the opportunity:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable families? Uniting is looking for a dedicated Family Preservation Caseworker to join our supportive team in Southwestern Sydney.

In this pivotal role, you’ll help families facing significant challenges by providing trauma-informed, evidence-based casework that focuses on keeping children safe within their homes. You’ll work alongside families in the child protection system, supporting them in overcoming barriers and building stronger, healthier relationships.

  • Deliver a range of culturally responsive, trauma-informed services to support family preservation.
  • Collaborate closely with families to develop and implement effective, child-focused case plans that ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Conduct home visits and assess families’ strengths and needs, creating personalised intervention plans that address immediate and ongoing risks.
  • Work alongside the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Caseworkers and other community networks to ensure the best outcomes for the families you serve.
  • Respond to on-call needs as part of a roster, providing critical support to families when they need it most.

Your Qualifications & Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, with at least two years of experience working with at-risk children and families.
  • Strong skills in risk assessment, case management, and building trust with families in crisis.
  • Proven ability to engage families and help them achieve goals that prioritise child safety.
  • Experience delivering support to children and families affected by domestic violence.
  • Cultural competence when working with Aboriginal families and those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Current NSW WWCC and NSW Driver’s license
