Senior Advisor, Business Controls

Your team
The Business Controls, Monitoring and Remediation team plays a key role in strengthening front line accountability for risk management, providing thought leadership, advice and challenge in the management of risks, obligations and controls, and overseeing adherence to risk appetite.
We have the opportunity for Senior Advisor, Business Controls to join the team.
This is a full-time position, with flexible working arrangements, based in the Brisbane Head Office in the heart of the CBD.
This role will report to Senior Manager, Business Controls.

Your impact and contribution
You will play a key role in supporting the business manage risk, providing input into the development of frameworks, policies, supporting standards, processes and procedures by collaborating and partnering with stakeholders, advancing understanding of our risk, obligation and control environment. 
You will monitor the effectiveness of controls, compliance with obligations and risk appetite, as well as provide risk insights by identifying new / emerging risks and regulatory change, to support the consistent delivery of meaningful value to our customers.
Your responsibilities

Risk and Controls Management
•You provide advice and guidance to the Chief Customer Office division, on the implementation of the Risk Management Framework.
•You manage the first line risk response, supporting maintenance of current and fit for purpose risk profiles.
•You work with the first line risk community to identify which key organisational controls are relied upon across the enterprise, prioritising testing, recommending improvements, and seeking opportunities to streamline and automate.
•You support the teams within each division to identify and manage current and emerging risks.
•You support the business to conduct required first line activities. For example: control design and effectiveness testing; obligations mapping; and reasonable steps oversight.

Compliance and Obligations
•You will monitor and support the delivery and maintenance of compliance plans.
•You provide advice and make recommendations on obligations mapping and ownership.

Business Continuity Planning
•You ensure that the BCPs, or elements of the BCPs are tested at least annually.

Incident and Breach Management
•You assess incidents, including incident / breach investigation (root cause analysis), and make recommendations on mitigating actions and control improvement design.
•Identify control deficiencies through the monitoring of incidents and root cause analysis. 

Risk Culture and Divisional Requirements
•You promote a positive Risk Culture throughout your sphere of influence, through education and modelling appropriate behaviours.
•You organise and prepare the requirements for the risk forums.
•You liaise with and challenge the second and third lines of defence as required.
•You actively seek opportunities to improve risk processes and procedures.

Regulatory change and support
•You support and advise on the implementation, embedding and ongoing monitoring of regulatory change initiatives. 

Leadership
•You are accountable for contributing to a culture of exceptional service, teamwork, commitment to excellence and a professional ethic that enables the achievement of team and organisational objectives.
•You engage team members at any level to increase their awareness of the Risk Management Framework. This can take the form of formal or informal training or discussions.

Your experience
•Minimum 3 years in financial services with a strong understanding of operational risk and compliance in the financial services industry
•Demonstrated experience in a Risk and Business Controls function, in particular controls testing and assurance activities
•Solid understanding of effective risk governance and reporting requirements for a financial institution
•Experience in Retail Banking highly desirable
•Experience in data analysis and data interrogation is highly desirable

Your qualifications
•Degree in management, business, finance or related discipline (essential)
•Knowledge of relevant Finance industry standards, acts, codes and legislation (, APRA, Consumer Credit Code, Credit Union Code of Practice, Privacy Act, Trade Practices Act, FSRA) (essential)
•Post-Graduate (Finance, Risk Management) (desirable)
•Member of professional Risk Management and/or Governance Associations (desirable)
