Our Rockhampton service provides free alcohol and other drug counselling and support services, including support for young people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Rockhampton and surrounding regions. We currently have a temporary full-time contract opportunity until 27 September 2024 for an AOD Counsellor Case Manager in our Rockhampton AOD team working with youth (but not limited to youth, some work with adult clients will be required).

Your opportunity

As an AOD Counsellor Case Manager, located in Rockhampton, you’ll engage and support your clients in their ongoing management, counselling, and treatment of AOD dependency and other associated factors. You’ll advocate for them, celebrate with them when they achieve their goals, and help to develop their capacity to move forward with confidence. Your focus will be youth engagement/providing support to young people accessing the service with a strong emphasis on co-case management and collaboration with other local youth services.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing high quality engagement, assessment, counselling, case management and support services to clients.
  • Facilitation of group programs with other co-facilitators as required.
  • Management of a case load of clients including service coordination, referral, and advocacy to support and assist clients in achieving their goals.
  • One day per week, provide outreach to clients at the community hub located in Yeppoon (this is a 30-minute drive from your usual work location).
  • Networking and collaboration with other local youth services.

Based in our Rockhampton office, you will become part of a small but impactful team and report directly to your Team Leader.

The gross hourly pay rate for the role will range between $43.08 to $49.28 (pay rates effective from first full pay period in July) plus super. The remuneration on offer will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s skills, knowledge, and experience.

About you

To succeed in this role, there are some essentials you’ll need:

  • Previous experience working with clients with AOD issues/concerns or tertiary qualifications in a related health services discipline.
  • Applied knowledge of contemporary evidence based AOD counselling practice, case management, intake, and assessment
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly developed communication and community engagement skills.
  • Current Australian issued Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check (e.g., Blue Card) or the ability to obtain this.
  • Previous experience working in an outreach service would be beneficial, as would an understanding of the Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) and Mental Health Sector.
