About the Role

This role is responsible for leading and supporting the site HSE&T department, ensuring alignment with both corporate and regulatory reporting requirements. The HSE&T Superintendent will serve as a systems-focused advisor to the Project Manager and broader site leadership team, with the goal of enhancing safety systems, leadership practices, and the overall safety culture at the site.

Reporting to the Project Manager this position will work on an 8:6 FIFO roster.

Key Requirements

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and site leadership to strengthen the implementation of safety systems, focusing on continuous learning, organisational improvement, and alignment with both the annual safety plan and corporate FY Plan
  • Act as a strategic advisor, partnering with management to foster a learning culture that prioritizes safety, leadership, and organisational learning.
  • Lead and coordinate the site’s HSE Coordinators, Training Coordinators, and Trainers.
  • Foster a learning organisation approach by encouraging cross-functional collaboration between the site and central HSE&T teams.
  • Promote open communication between Barminco and client HSE and Leadership personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor programs that improve safety leadership.
  • Ensure systems are in place for compliance with HSE policy, regulations, and internal audits.
  • Mentor and coach site leaders in fostering a learning environment, using feedback from daily operations, incident investigations, and learning teams to enhance leadership and safety practices.
  • Oversee the design and execution of HSE&T training programs, ensuring they are aligned with organisational goals.
  • Lead investigative processes using methodologies such as ICAM, with a focus on identifying organisational gaps and bridging the difference between Work-As-Imagined (WAI) and Work-As-Done (WAD) through active engagement.
  • Facilitate proactive learning teams to better understand work as normal.
  • Ensure full comprehension and alignment with Barminco’s and the client’s safety plans and objectives, promoting safety leadership using learning teams and feedback mechanisms.
  • Lead the completion of site risk assessments, engaging stakeholders to ensure a thorough evaluation of potential risks and systemic challenges.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSE&T, with demonstrated leadership in fostering safety systems, learning cultures, and engagement in learning teams.
  • Solid understanding of underground mining operations and the systemic safety challenges faced.
  • Experience with facilitating and report writing of ICAM investigation with a focus on organisational failings
  • Proven experience in leading learning teams and contributing to the development of a learning organisation.
  • Proficient in data-driven decision-making tools that prioritise organisational learning, feedback loops, and continuous improvement.
