In this integral role, you will be leading an applied research program of works based in Western Australia, create new and grow current opportunities, enhancing client relationships, and delivering quality outputs with the wider Safer Smarter Infrastructure team on a Local, State, National and International scale.

You will need to have confidence and interest developing innovative transport safety/ design solutions spanning across road mining, rail, aviation and port industries.

This role requires the ability to deliver consistent, high-quality applied research, evaluations and solution-oriented outcomes for transportation safety projects and programs for key clients.

Main duties of the role

  • Project manage all technical aspects of a project
  • Undertake applied research using a first principles approach to provide innovative and practical solutions that can be implemented to improve transport safety
  • Provide expert consulting and technical advice to various stakeholders
  • Develop new and effective transport safety policy and technical guidance for industry practitioners
  • Develop new and foster existing client relationships to develop and grow consulting and research-based projects and programs
  • Represent NTRO through publishing research and technical papers and presenting at National and International conferences
  • Coach and mentor junior staff to assist with their development

About you

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Transport) or equivalent tertiary degree
  • 7+ years relevant transport engineering related experience, preferably from the consulting/private sectors
  • Have demonstrated program delivery experience with keen focus on balancing accountabilities across multiple projects
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, interpersonal and project management skills
  • Expertise in the application of road safety and road design guidelines and standards with the technical understanding of the road safety context in Australia.
  • Have awareness of infrastructure risk assessments related to road and rail safety
  • Strong report writing skills including strong proficiency in English and grammar
  • Professional registration in achieving NER, CPEng, RPEQ, RPEV, MIEAust preferred
