Why this role Matters

PRAP, the Private Rental Assistance Program, is a preventative intervention that provides holistic support to households experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The PRAP worker is part of a Private Rental team who work closely with Homelessness Entry Point IAP team and other specialist homelessness services, programs, and teams.

About the Role

This role requires you as a PRAP Brokerage Worker in delivering flexible and individually tailored support and financial packages that are designed to prevent eviction from private rental or establish a successful private rental tenancy. Address issues which are contributing to the risk of tenancy breakdown. Achieve outcomes that lead to successful, sustainable private rental tenancies. Reduce preventable exits from private rental and Prevent homelessness.

This is a max-term (ending June 2025) full-time position based at The Salvation Army’s Western Metro Homelessness services, Sunshine VIC, and works across the Brimbank-Melton region.

You will Successfully:

• Ensure service delivery is aligned with national and state strategic plans, and the National Homelessness Stream Model of Care

• Manage Funds within PRAP brokerage guidelines and according to TSA policy and documentation processes.

• Develop & maintain strong working relationships with real estate agencies and other appropriate bodies.

• Participate in, comply with, and be supported by WHS outreaching worker safety risk management processes.

• Assist the client to liaise and negotiate with real estate agents, including understanding rental ledgers and reporting maintenance.

• Develop collaborative relationships with local support agencies to promote the program and assist with referrals.

• Ensure that delivery of services and support is aligned with the National Homelessness Stream Model of Care, which underpins homelessness services across the country and defines expectations and standards for those we serve, our partners and allies, and the Australian community

About You:

• Diploma or above tertiary qualification in a relevant social work or human services field

• A current and valid Working with Children Check

• A current and valid Victorian Driver’s license

• This role requires a working understanding of and experience in a human service environment.

• A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 is essential to the role.
