About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity available within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences (FMDHS) for an experienced professional. The role is based at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC), a world-class model of care for cancer patients that combines best practices from the Royal Melbourne, Peter Mac and The Women’s. This role ensures the safe and effective delivery of research, teaching, and public health activities by overseeing laboratory compliance, implementing OHS policies, and managing necessary licences and permits. The position requires coordination within a complex organisational structure and a shared services model, supporting a world-class cancer care and research environment.Your responsibilities will include:
Laboratory Management: Oversee licenses, permits, and regulatory compliance for laboratory facilities, ensuring adherence to safety standards and streamlined processes. Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management: Develop safety objectives, risk assessments, and standard procedures, provide OHS training, conduct audits and investigations, and collaborate with key partners. Relationship Management: Establish strong relationships with facility users, operations teams, and stakeholders, working collaboratively to implement compliance strategies and projects. Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to consult, influence, and build strong relationships across diverse teams. They will demonstrate proven organisational abilities, effectively balancing competing demands, while maintaining a collaborative team approach and adaptability to new technologies.
You will also have:
Undergraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as science and OH&S. Extensive experience working within a scientific or medical laboratory environment and coordination of personnel in a matrix environment. Demonstrated knowledge of OGTR regulatory requirements and proven experience working within a PC2 containment facility. Exhibit a good understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, as well as laboratory regulatory and statutory requirements. Prove the ability to propose practical solutions for OHS and laboratory issues, considering legislation, standards, and guidance materials.For further information regarding responsibilities and requirements, please refer to the attached PD.
