Thales Australia is seeking a trade compliance professional with strong background in global trade compliance, specifically on Australian and US export control regimes, including the compliance with facilitating import and export activities.
This role will focus on overseeing trade compliance matters for the Ammunitions (AM) and Guided Weapons (GWEO) business area. Reporting to the functions’ Director for Trade Compliance, the Trade Compliance Officer (TCO) will also be a key member of Ammunitions Organisation & Thales Australia’s Trade Compliance network.
The TCO is a key advisor to the business area on global trade and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of trade compliance processes and procedures, and ensuring compliance with national and other international export control regimes and customs obligations.
YOUR ROLE
Your role purpose will be:
Provide crucial guidance and support to the business area on global trade matters Serving as a trusted advisor to the business, offering expertise on global trade compliance requirements and assisting in their implementation Providing direction and taking ownership of tasks related to the AM and GWEO projects, guiding and advising on the best course of action Implementing processes and procedures throughout the business area to uphold compliance with national and international export control regulations and customs obligations Ensuring that projects have obtained the necessary permits and licenses to support both tangible and intangible exports, and managing any changes to these authorizations as needed Monitoring the effectiveness of trade compliance controls and proposing and implementing mitigation strategies in cases of non-complianceYOUR EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:
Solid experience in export controls and broader understanding of international trade matters Proficient knowledge and experience with Australian and U.S. export control laws, as well as overall compliance with import and export activities Tertiary qualifications in international commerce, economics, policy, or international relations are highly valued Previous experience in the Defence industry in a trade/export control compliance role is also beneficial Experience in interpreting and implementing government policies Demonstrated leadership of small to medium teams located in different locations. Ability to influence and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, establishing strong working relationships to achieve desired outcomes Strong attention to detail and effective prioritization skills Flexibility in terms of work schedule, hours, and location Holder of NV1 clearance, or Australian Citizen and eligibility to obtain a defence security clearance up to NV1It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit.
