Northern Beaches Hospital is currently seeking enthusiastic and passionate volunteers to join our hospital team. Volunteers make a significant contribution to the hospital and the Northern Beaches community.
We are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), Indigenous Australians and people who identify as LGBTQ+ Hospital Helpers
Hospital Helpers are valuable members of the ward or unit and works closely with clinical and non-clinical staff to support patients throughout their stay in the hospital.
This role helps to improve the patient experience and is one of the most rewarding for volunteers and for patients and staff. 
Tasks include assisting patients with refreshments including tea, coffee and meals; social activities including chatting, reading and playing cards; helping patients with belongings; general assistance around the ward and other support duties. 
Roles are available throughout the hospital including women and children, aged care, medical and surgical wards, day surgery and recovery. 
Hospital Greeter
Hospital Greeters provide valuable assistance to patients arriving for admission to hospital. Based in Bookings and Admissions, Greeters escort patients to our Day of Admissions Centre and assist with patient belongings. 
Emergency Department Volunteer
Needing emergency care can be frightening and confusing for patients and their families. The ED Volunteers help to provide information and support to people when they need it most. 
Stationed at the front of the ED, volunteers will greet patients and their families and help them navigate the triage process, explain what to expect and assist with any other needs. 
Volunteers will also roam the waiting room to connect with patients and escalate any issues to staff. 
Tasks include assisting patients with information, patient liaison, general assistance and other support duties. 
Special skills volunteers
We are also looking for volunteers who can offer their skills to our patients: Arts and Crafts Hand massage Musical talent – singing or playing an instrument Sewing skills  Consumer Consultants
Our Consumer Consultants help Northern Beaches Hospital be responsive to patient, carer and consumer input and needs. As an advisor to the hospital, you will make a real difference to future service provision at NBH. Your role might include sitting on committees, advising on consumer publications or helping to develop future programs. 
Consumer Consultants should have experience of hospital services as a consumer or carer or have a chronic condition requiring frequent admissions. You should also have a commitment to providing a consumer perspective. 
Training
Training will be provided particularly for those working with older patients, those with dementia and mental health issues.
