Our client is an engineering consultancy specialising in delivering civil, structural, and water engineering solutions for their clients within the built environment. They have an enviable reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative solutions and are known for their multidisciplinary approach that delivers exceptional outcomes for their clients.

As a Civil Engineer you will Assist in developing cost-effective designs in a timely manner that are appropriate to the project and client’s needs, ensuring documentation is accurate and correct prior to use, have relevant Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

Tasks required include:

  • Assist Project Managers with planning, coordinating and scheduling timely delivery of project services ensuring outcomes, timelines and budgets are met.
  • Assist with coordination and effective management of project resources (both internal and external) and deliverables on time and within the budget.
  • Liaise with authorities or relevant stakeholders to negotiate project outcomes.
  • Undertake site inspections for individual projects, as required.
  • Provide technical input into engineering design and reporting on a range of projects across the discipline.
  • Review the work of graduate civil engineers, designers and drafters to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Maintain knowledge and competence in the use of design software deemed necessary to complete projects.
  • Assist clients through technical decision-making and provide alternatives options/solutions if there are changes to project objectives.
  • Ensure all designs are checked and approved by the relevant RPEQ prior to forwarding to the relevant authorities or other stakeholders.
  • Ensure clients are promptly advised of design issues or other adverse situations that could materially impact on the project.
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate project time and expense budgets.
  • Assist in managing project deliverables on time and within the budget.
  • Identify, manage and minimise project risks.
  • Attend networking functions and represent Inertia Engineering.
  • Engage and further develop relationships with existing key clients.
  • Ensure all documentation meets Inertia’s professional standards and statutory requirements prior to being issued.
  • Ensure all project records (drawings, data, etc) are accurately filed in the appropriate, organised manner (ie as per Inertia’s document control procedures).
  • Comply with reasonable instructions given for your own safety and that of others, in adhering to work safe procedures.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health, safety and wellbeing and take reasonable care to ensure that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health, safety and wellbeing of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, where practicable to management.
  • Actively participate in the development and maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Assist in creating and promoting an environment of psychological safety where ideas are shared freely.
  • Suggest improvements to team and individual tasks, processes and procedures, looking for better ways to enhance performance, productivity and job satisfaction.
  • Actively share relevant ideas and support the implementation of key innovations across the group and greater business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar role
  • Relevant industry membership – MIEAust and working towards professional engineering chartership (CPENG & RPEQ)
  • Strong technical knowledge of systems and procedures relating to the role, including practical knowledge, principles and methods of engineering, and relevant codes, standards and legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing fee proposals, tender documents and submissions
  • Demonstrated ability of reviewing project technical work and providing direction and guidance to project personnel
  • Advanced skill level in relevant software.
  • Strong business & financial acumen with the ability to analyse, interpret, summarise, resolve and report. 
  • Strong communication skills both written (report writing) and verbal (presentations).
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to influence and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning and development.
