Sydney, Australia Eucalyptus Full time

Healthcare is usually slow and boring. We believe in its potential to be exciting and entertaining. But changing the healthcare experience is hard – and we’re gonna need all the help we can get…

About Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus (or 'Euc' for short) is an Australian founded digital healthcare company that is on a mission to solve the world’s biggest healthcare challenges - think fertility, and behavioural change around chronic conditions such as weight loss, diabetes, and mental health.

Founded in Australia in 2019, we have now helped over 500K patients globally by combining technology, design and operational excellence to help patients access the best clinical support when they need it - wherever they are.

Our 5 clinics (Juniper, Pilot, Kin, Software, & Compound) focus heavily on personalising the experience for different demographics and are powered by a growing team across 5 countries (Australia, UK, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines).

We’ve raised over AUD$160M in funding from Aussie and Silicon Valley investors who were early backers of Uber, Canva and AirBnb. With plans to launch into several more markets, offline channels, and tackle new conditions.

We’re looking to continue building our team of executional weapons who are passionate about healthcare, aren’t afraid to work hard, and invest in others through direct and honest feedback. This approach enables us to make the most impactful changes to improve the health of millions of patients globally.

About the role (What you’ll be doing)

As a Senior Data Engineer at Eucalyptus, you’ll be at the center of transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive the business forward. Partnering closely with Analytics, Finance, Engineering, and Product teams, you’ll design and build scalable, high-performance data pipelines that meet the evolving needs of each function. Your work will empower teams with the right data at the right time, helping unlock new opportunities and optimize outcomes.

  • Be the owner of Eucalyptus’ data infrastructure: Lead the development and optimisation of data architecture to ensure seamless access to insights at scale.
  • Optimize for performance and reliability: Oversee database capacity planning, warehouse performance tuning, and infrastructure evolution to keep systems running at their best.
  • Embrace new challenges and skillsets: Take on the data requirements of the businesses emerging technology needs —such as machine learning and generative AI.
  • Mentor across the business: Share your expertise with colleagues, mentoring and educating others on data engineering best practices to build a data-driven culture across the company.

About you (Who you are)

We are looking for someone who is passionate about building elegant solutions to complex challenges. We want someone who will push the envelope, always striving toward building toward the best in class data platform to support the next challenge we will face as a business.

  • 5+ years of experience in a data engineering role.
  • Excellent communication skills: Able to navigate cross-functional collaboration and align stakeholders through clear, concise communication.
  • Expertise in SQL and Python, bonus points for experience in Golang and Terraform.
  • End-to-end analytics instrumentation Comfortable working across both backend and frontend to ensure analytics events are accurately tracked.
  • Data transformation and orchestration: Skilled with DBT and Cloud Composer (or similar tools) to manage complex data workflows.
  • Unstructured and multi-modal data: Experience working with tools like Bigtable, Cloud Storage, and Data Catalog would be nice to have.
  • Streaming technologies knowledge: Familiar with tools such as Apache Kafka, Google Cloud Dataflow, or Pub/Sub, would be nice to have.
  • AI deployment experience or interest: Preferably on Google Cloud (GCP) using services like Vertex AI, Cloud Run, and Kubernetes Engine.
