Port Huon, Australia Huon Aquaculture Company Full time

Huon is seeking expressions of interest from qualified Chief Engineers who are interested in joining the Fish Performance Feed team aboard the Huon Supply.  

The role

Reporting to the Master, the Chief Engineer will oversee all maintenance and repair of equipment related to the ship’s engines, pumps and electrical systems. You will:

  • Deliver timely, clear, and decisive recommendations, weighing risks and environmental conditions to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Leverage specialised knowledge and technical expertise to work with the Master in developing and implementing a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Ensure that electronics, machinery, and engines are properly serviced, maintained, and certified in line with the planned maintenance management system, including thorough documentation for both scheduled and unplanned repairs.
  • Regularly review and assess the Safety Management System, reporting deficiencies and providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Mentor and support deckhands on the Huon Supply, offering guidance and coaching to foster their professional development.

About you

  • You hold a Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 and bring extensive experience in maintaining machinery to a high level on a similar vessel.
  • You are an excellent communicator who enjoys building strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • You have a proven track record of working proactively and focusing on continuous improvement.
  • You are confident in your knowledge of Maintenance Scheduling software and ability to use the Microsoft Office suite.
  • You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and maintain precise and accurate records.
