The Employee Relations branch is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Principal Consultant - Workers' Compensation to join their team.
The Employee Relations Directorate is responsible for ensuring that industrial instruments and legislative frameworks are complied with and that employees are supported in a range of discrete human resource matters. The Directorate is made up of two branches: Labour Relations and Employee Support Bureau. It provides strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director General, school leaders and line managers on a range of employee relations matters.

The successful applicant will develop, implement, review and report on workers’ compensation programs and procedures and liaise with management, Directors, Principals and schools in relation to complex and difficult workers compensation issues. The Principal Consultant will at a system level, investigate and research complex and difficult workers’ compensation matters in regions, schools and central office, and develop strategies for their management. The successful applicant establishes and communications networks and provides input into negotiations with Insurance Commission of Western Australia, Workcover Western Australia, State Solicitors Office and external stakeholders. The Principal Consultant will be responsible for managing a team during a period of legislative with the introduction of the new Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act in July 2024.

Demonstrated extensive skills and experience in managing workers’ compensation and injury management issues in a large organisation. Demonstrated highly developed negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to influence and achieve outcomes. Demonstrated highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and build high-level cross-sectoral relationships. Demonstrated substantival skills and experience in providing high-level advice, management, professional development and strategic direction in effectively dealing with change. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to provide innovative thinking in problem solving.
