A unique opportunity exists in ABL's Sydney office for a law graduate to join our taxation team. This role would suit either a graduate or someone who has recently commenced their career and is looking to join private practice.

This graduate role forms part of a graduate cohort across our Melbourne and Sydney offices.

Arnold Bloch Leibler is a premium Australian commercial law firm renowned for advising clients on their most important transactions, commercial issues and disputes. Taxation team
The successful candidate would work predominantly with Clint Harding, Partner and Jonathan Ortner, Partner and their team. The ABL tax team is led by Senior Partner, Mark Leibler AC, and enjoys a reputation as one of the 'go to' firms for major Australian and international corporations, family businesses, entrepreneurs and senior executives seeking tax advice.

Our market leading controversy and advisory practice, together with our extensive history of dealing with the ATO, places us in the best position to advise clients and their advisers regarding the application of complex taxation laws to their affairs. We understand how the ATO approaches an issue, and we are experienced in negotiating and dealing with issues in a way the ATO understands and accepts. We are able to advise clients as to how the ATO will view any particular situation and we possess the experience and knowledge necessary to assist clients in managing their tax affairs appropriately, as well as dealing with any disputes that may arise.

The role
We're looking for an outstanding graduate who is a self-starter with highly developed analytical skills, an eye for detail and strong interpersonal skills. You have an exceptional legal mind, as well as commercial and strategic nous. You enjoy feeling challenged, and to be given opportunities to take on additional responsibility with autonomy. You want to feel like you are an important member of, and making a meaningful and valued contribution to, a team that is consistently outperforming its competitors. You are ambitious, enjoy success and are ready to perform at your own high standard.

You will have:

  • completed your law degree or completing your final semester with excellent academic results;
  • an ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, clearly and concisely;
  • excellent attention to detail;
  • strong interpersonal skills;
  • an ability to understand and identify the key issues in a legal matter;
  • good judgement and common sense;
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and
  • a passion for a career in commercial law
